Job description:

Installation, maintenance, manufacturing and repair of sawmill and power station equipment, motors, gear boxes, machinery, tools, conveyor systems, control systems, kilns, buildings, vehicles, trailers, pumps ,  water (reticulation) and sprinkler systems; Setting of frame saws and machines; Replacement of blades; Fit grinding wheels and stones; General welding, cutting and grinding work; Attend to fault finding, maintenance, re-setting and repairs of hydraulic and pneumatic systems; Turning and milling of spare parts; General maintenance of firefighting equipment and assist in fire prevention; General maintenance and repairs of company assets, including buildings, houses, vehicles and/or any other property the company is liable to maintain.

Electrical installation, fault finding, maintenance and repairs; PLC programming and fault finding (experience on Panasonic and Siemens S7-200, 300 and 1200 will be advantageous); Automated switchgear (sensor) installations; Programming of V.S.D’s and AC servo drives and process controllers.

Minimum requirements:

South African citizen.

Qualified as a Millwright or Electrician.

Practical experience in a sawmill environment will be advantageous.

Prepared to work shifts, willingness to learn and the ability to work and take rational decisions under pressure.

On the job training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Remuneration will be based on skills and experience and will include membership to a retirement fund as well as company housing.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The candidate must be a qualified electrician

  • Willingness to perform standby/call out duties and work overtime as and when required.

  • Probable night shift will be required.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend to and repair all electrical breakdowns
  • Trace electrical faults, replace and rewire components and panels
  • Fault-find on PLC’s and VFD’s as well as changing out VFDs
  • Install and test new electrical installations
  • Complete maintenance work as per management’s instructions
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures whilst maintaining high levels of housekeeping
  • Assist artisans with maintenance, mechanical faults/breakdowns, and new installations on all machines.

The ideal candidate is 30 to 40 years old, has sober habits, and is dedicated to their work. It will be an advantage for the candidate to speak and understand Zulu well.

Busby Sawmills, a dynamic medium-sized sawmilling operation situated midway between Ermelo and Mkhondo, requires the services of a results-driven and hands-on Wet Mill Manager to oversee and optimise all wet mill production activities within the operation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving production throughput targets, maximising log recovery, maintaining product quality standards and ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective wet mill operations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Wood Technology, Timber Processing, Production Management or related field advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sawmilling production environment
  • Proven experience managing wet mill operations and production teams
  • Strong understanding of log breakdown optimisation, recovery rates and sawing systems
