Duties will include:

  • Supervise the efficient and profitable running of the harvesting operations including manual and
    mechanical
  • Plan, organise and control harvesting activities in accordance with company procedures, standards
    and budgets
  • Assist with the management of contractors
  • Ensure compliance with FSC standards and requirements
  • Develop, implement and monitor operational plan on all road maintenance
  • Adhere to Health and Safety standards
  • Efficiently manage people including grievance and disciplinary procedures
  • Forestry administration – (compartment management, fuel/chemical usage records)
  • Vehicle and resource management including maintenance overview (Skidders, Tractor, Bell)
  • Fire standby

Requirements:

  • Forestry Diploma or Forestry Degree
  • 3 – 5 Years as Harvesting Forester
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Must be prepared to work overtime and standby
  • Chainsaw maintenance experience
  • Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation with specific emphasis on the Forests Act and the
    Veld and Forest Fire Act.
  • Good knowledge of mechanised pine harvesting and thinning’s and short haul.
  • Knowledge of the OSHACT, accident investigation, Labour Relations Act, Mentoring and
    coaching of staff etc.

Normandien Farms (PTY) Ltd requires the services of an experienced Sawmill Production Manager
based in Empuluzi. The Production Manager is responsible for managing the processing operations
of the entire Sawmill.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of manufactured timber products to meet order
    requirements.
  • Overseeing production processes from log receipts to finished goods dispatching.
  • The assurance of BCEA, OHS and affiliated legal compliance framework requirements.
  • Further develop and monitor adherence to SOP’s by ensuring training of relevant persons,
    audits and corrective action of all findings in collaboration with the management team.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team organizing the repair and routine maintenance of
    production equipment to ensure line proficiency and production levels are maintained
  • Capacity and factory planning, daily reporting on production efficiencies, wastage
  • Maintains organization and tracking of all departmental paperwork
  • Staff management, including supervision, training discipline, and creating a high-
    performance team.
  • Production process improvement and optimization of machinery, equipment, plant, and
    people
  • Inventory management through the entire operation.
  • Cost and budgetary management and control.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Wood technology or Production Management
  • Minimum of 5 years’ production experience in a Production environment.
  • Ability to manage a production plant.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • SANS Verification/Good knowledge of SANS Structural Board Grading Standards will be
    advantageous.
