Duties will include:

  • Supervise the efficient and profitable running of the harvesting operations including manual and
    mechanical
  • Plan, organise and control harvesting activities in accordance with company procedures, standards
    and budgets
  • Assist with the management of contractors
  • Ensure compliance with FSC standards and requirements
  • Develop, implement and monitor operational plan on all road maintenance
  • Adhere to Health and Safety standards
  • Efficiently manage people including grievance and disciplinary procedures
  • Forestry administration – (compartment management, fuel/chemical usage records)
  • Vehicle and resource management including maintenance overview (Skidders, Tractor, Bell)
  • Fire standby

Requirements:

  • Forestry Diploma or Forestry Degree
  • 3 – 5 Years as Harvesting Forester
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Must be prepared to work overtime and standby
  • Chainsaw maintenance experience
  • Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation with specific emphasis on the Forests Act and the
    Veld and Forest Fire Act.
  • Good knowledge of mechanised pine harvesting and thinning’s and short haul.
  • Knowledge of the OSHACT, accident investigation, Labour Relations Act, Mentoring and
    coaching of staff etc.

  • Proven self-starter with demonstrated ability to make decisions and work under pressure
  • Excellent leadership skills ability to build and motivate a team, establish, and maintain a working
    environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
